I love my city
What Kyle said.
I love my NEW city.
After spending the majority of my life in sunny Cairns, I’ve made the decision to move to Melbourne.
It’s been a long time coming; for as long as I can remember, I’ve been telling anyone & everyone that I wanted to live in the ‘big city’. After a failed attempt at moving to Sydney in 2007, I’m determined to make sure Melbourne works.
I was born in Melbourne but my family moved to Cairns when I was very young and we’ve been here ever since. In recent years, I’ve made at least 3-4 trips back each year for various reasons - bands, sporting events, holidays. It’s reached the stage where it’s nearly cheaper for me to live there.
I’m moving with my boyfriend, Ryan. He’s a pretty cool guy. After being sworn enemies for several years, we started talking in mid-2011 and realised we actually had a lot in common. After being very persistent and very funny, he managed to win me over and the rest (as they say) is history.
Ryan shares the same desire to move away and experience ‘big city life’. He tried a stint in Brisbane but for a few reasons, came back up north.
After a few false starts, we have settled on a date - 1st March. We’ve both given notice in our jobs and we’re now on the final countdown.
I’ll be honest, we haven’t started packing. I think we’re both feeling as though it is still a long time to go, so it’s hard to get the motivation. That, and most of the stuff we are taking will be needed in the next few weeks so it’s a little bit pointless getting organised this early.
We are driving down in Ryan’s car. Mine is being sold, which is pretty heartbreaking for me but it’s all for a good cause. We’re making it a bit of a holiday but I’ll post more about that later.
In the meantime, I’ve made it my mission to enjoy Cairns, my family and my friends as much as possible until I go.
20 sleeps.

Yeah found a place to live in Kensington, kinda north west (West seems to be the area everyone warns us about haha)
All those things you said sound great! Beer and dumplings!
